ID Kit Research

I consider my medium to be web design, specifically UX design. I enjoy crafting layouts and creating animated micro-components. I consider my style to be modern and minimal, because every time I’ve worked on a project for my UX classes, I’ve found the style of my layouts to be clean-cut and modern. I consider my services of choice to be in Adobe XD, some HTML/CSS, Axure, and Figma. My services would also include research and Adobe-based software with some branding techniques.

The kind of skills, aptitudes, and abilities current jobs in my field are requiring are based on experience and specific qualifications. To be a UX Designer for NetApp Inc. in Boulder, they are asking for at least 5 years of experience in web-based software. They want you to have passion, perseverance, and an interest in success. They are also asking for you to be proficient in UX tools. To be a UX designer for Maxar Technologies, they are asking for you to have a bachelor’s degree in relation to UX design. They are asking for 4 years of experience in UX design with knowledge of design tools and human centered design principles, while also having a strong portfolio. I think my skills would align with some of these qualifications, because I have the experience they are asking for from taking UX design classes. Mostly every job post asks for a strong portfolio. When I had my interview with Connor Schmitt, he told me your website/portfolio counts as an actual project, because it’s something you work on that needs to catch the attention of the viewer. My skills can and will always improve and I think it’s important that my aptitude of passion and interest relates to what companies and job listings are asking for.

Thinking about after I graduate, what I would be able to offer that no one else in the market can offer is that I am willing to put my ideas out there while also listening to others ideas. I would be able to offer patience and passion as a new employee and listen to the demands of the clients as I have done in school while working on projects. I enjoy solving problems in the tech design industry and learning from my mistakes based on criticism, which I take well. I constantly set goals for myself and have never missed deadlines, even due to personal issues, which I keep outside of work. I understand the UX industry is about serving to clients and I have some experience within psychology that I think would work well when understanding people. Ideally, I’d love to work for a company such as Bark Box, Chewy, or something to do with people so I think my brand’s unique value proposition would be Solve It, or something similar, because I believe I am good at solving problems.

Ideally, the kinds of clients and industries I would like to serve and work with are clients who are passionate about what they like and industries who are passionate about what they do. The UX design industry is what I would work in, while working for clients who are looking for the company to solve their problems while also creating an app or website. BarkBox is a company that specializes in dog toys and treats. The customer receives a box every month including a few toys and a couple bags of treats. The company allows employees to bring their dogs to work, receive health/dental insurance, and would ultimately be the ideal company to work for in the design department. Another company I’d like to work for would is Rover. Rover also allows their employees to bring their pets to work and like to have confidence within their team. I think it would be fun to work for a company where I would never get bored of the work I’m doing, as I have an interest in dogs and I would feel motivated while working on projects.

List of problems I am most interest in addressing after I graduate:
People and their pets
Pet Adoption
How to conduct research on a short time period
Problem solving and psychology
Improving UX design

Through my research, the problems I am most interested in addressing after I graduate fall under the category of people and pets. Because I would like to work for a pet supply company, I think it’s important that I face problems surrounding the psychology of people and how they interact with their pets. I would also like to tackle problems between navigating UX and psychology. I think it’s important to face psychology in the UX world, because it will help me to understand why I create what I create for clients.

Based on my research, the attributes and services I think I would need to offer to be competitive in my envisioned marketplace would be productivity, patience, flexibility, and innovation. When I work on projects for school, I am actively looking to improve my work. I would be able to offer the company productivity, because I am always working on what needs to be done, rather than waiting until the last minute. I would also be able to offer patience. When working with clients, I think it’s important for the employees/company to be patient when working with clients and other teams. Flexibility is another attribute I would be able to offer, because I am very easy going. Finally, I would be able to offer the company innovation. Throughout my time in college, I have learned many skills regarding software and have been open to getting out of my comfort zone. Innovation is important when working for a competitive company and I think I would be able to offer new ideas which are much needed in the UX world.
